Fly Tying for PNW Trout: Weighted Edition

This is my second entry for flies I have tied for the PNW. You can read about how I got these weighted flies by reading the previous post. This entry is strictly just the couple of weight flies I have tied inspired by some local friends and the fly shops I have visited in Portland and the Willamette Valley.

I came across these metallic pink bead headed flies in one of the six fly shops I have visited while here in the Willamette Valley. I was intrigued and realized most of the flies had some sort of flash aspect to them…. So, here are a few variations of some heavy flies I have tied.

These flies all feature the Fulling Mill “Metallic Light Pink” Slotted Tungsten Bead of a size 3.2mm and an Umpqua Jig Hook I believe size 12.

Ingredients:
Body- It is some micro chenille stuff…..Let me know anyone has any idea what it is because I cannot find it in my fly tying bag and I forget!!!
Hackle and Tail- Frattone Heritage Farm American Gamefowl Hen

I plan on tying more of these with leadfree wraps of wire underneath the dubbing to make them even heavier. Also, Dragontail Tenkara has a great deal on link pink metallic beads which I got I the 3.5mm and 4.0mm varieties. I am excited to tie with these and try these out on the water soon. Usually I am a weightless bug angler, but when the time and conditions are right, then I use these weighted bugs to get down further and deeper were the fish are holding. I am finding that this water is bigger and flowing faster than I am used to fishing and I need something that will get me deep fast in order to entice some fish! Only time will tell.
